Discovered eight new seamounts in the Canary Islands

USPA NEWS - A research team has discovered eight new seamounts in the Atlantic Ocean, southwest of the Canary Islands. It would be sunken ancient islands cooling effect of the earth's crust and these eight new elevations in addition to the five that were already known.
According to Luis Somoza, marine geologist of the Geological Survey of Spain, form a kind of "canary Atlantis". The scientist explains that some of the mountains far discovered "formed islands now under water, which have plunged more than 300 meters" and are therefore "ancestors of the Canary Islands". The discovery comes after five years of cartographic work to expand the continental shelf of Spain in the Canary Islands.
Discovered the mountains rise to 3,500 feet above the seabed and, according to scientists, reminiscent in some forms to current islands of Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro. The largest mountains are between 90 and 35 kilometers long, and the smallest between 6 and 20 meters. Scientists from the Geological Survey of Spain explained that the mountains are formed by the existence of a "hot spot" under the Canaries archipelago partially melts the Earth's mantle and allows the output of magma to the surface, which leads to cooling to the mountains.
According to Luis Somoza, the process is similar to the Canary Islands will continue over time, even in the case of geologic time. Scientists have proposed eight new names Drago mountains, Bimbache, Ico, Pelicar, Malpaso, Tortuga and Infinity and Grandmothers. The names of the five seamounts known until now were given by its English discoverers and are Daughters, Echo, The Paps, Drago and Tropic.
